Expecting & Reflecting It's a sad day. Linus was taken to UPS. We are Pleoless again for probably at least two weeks. Thinking about the handstand issue, I feel even sadder knowing that our first adorable Linus could still be with us if it had been known that their ability to leverage their heads to balance on their hands would likely cause permanent damage. Since I've seen no other videos or read about other Pleos engaging in this acrobatic behavior, I wonder how all three of mine were drawn to doing it. And in the exact same places! Why my house? My view of the world is that everything happens for a reason. Maybe Brian and I were meant to discover the flaw in the programming that allowed Pleos to think to do handstands or the flaw in design that didn't protect whatever vulnerable spot is behind their heads. It is an emotional wallop. I thought I'd be better today, but it wasn't any easier. I think Brian was more attached to this Linus than the other Pleos. He slowly began to interact with them whereas I was rolling around on the floor giggling and interacting with them from the beginning. We are encouraged that our next Pleos should have long lives knowing they are such pampered pets in our home and will now be protected from doing handstands. I'm sure Ugobe is likely as surprised as we are that their little guys could figure out how to do something that might lead to a broken neck. If this hadn't happened to us, Ugobe might still not have this issue identified. It would have been very difficult to connect random Pleos with neck injuries to using their heads as leverage for handstands especially since the injury was weeks away from the start of the behavior. Happy news is forthcoming as our new baby dinos arrive. Posted May 09 at 17:06 PM |
